Help Permanent Live Cig Port
Hi all, I am have loads of battery problems and im on my 4 battery now since aug 2010. Main Reason being the car does not get used as im not working at the moment and the car is expensive to run however i dont want to sell it so ive kept it on my drive. I Have bought a solar trickle charger from maplins and realised my car 2001 mg zt 190+ does not leave its cig port live after ignition is switched off. I am aware it come with clamps that can be installed on the battery but really do not want to install that method as headache disconnecting and connecting and the routing of the wires. Can i convert current port so its live always or Install another cig port so it is always live? If so any ideas please? Also it needs to be able to send the charge to the battery so am i limited on what can be tapped into would it have to be fused? Thanks for your time

Prits,
Here's an easier solution. Buy a battery charger for £15 from a local motor factor or Lidl or Halfords and charge your battery once a month. According to my MGR wiring diagram the cigar lighter is not switched by the ignition key. So either you have different wiring, or you've blown a fuse, or your solar charger is simply not providing sufficient output. Simon

Ahhh another gremlin in the published wiring diagrams it seems, I'm quite certain my cigar lighter is ign dependent
I'm almost sure there is a perm heavy duty live behind the glove box that is used for the perm live to the tow bar, that would be ideal

Mine is permanently live as well. I believe earlier models require ignition on, later not. Haven't a record of when they changed. I use a 4watt solar charger. It generates over 13v even on cloudy days. Output current will be miniscule but it's better than nothing at all.
