Default Interesting chat.. with my insurer

So my insurance is due for renewal next month, so I rang my insurance company and lo and behold I was told (unofficially) my premium will rise slightly, even though I have made no claims, excuses like.. inflation/costs/other driver claims/ blah blah..... And she then asked if I was likely to renew to which I replied " No" no bartering, no discount..... So went online and got some insurance with exact same details, and got fully comp £225.00 cheaper.

It’s always best to do a comparison when your renewal comes in as insurance companies just try it on.

My recent renewal for the Merc was 10% up on last year and after a comparison I saved approx £150

There was some talk about insurance companies being taken to task over this, something like the PPi scandal with banks.

Default Insurance

The best time to get an insurance quote is 21 days before it’s due I watched a programme with Martin Lewis about it .When I tried it I saved £200 when I did a quote for a few days time the price shot up hope that helps 👍

It does pay to shop around, set aside the time to do it. I saved £480 last year by switching two cars to SAGA, funny I know but being the other side of 50 did pay!

I’m with the AA for the Rover and last year there was a substantial increase so went on line and found it cheaper so phoned the AA and informed them I’d found a cheaper quote online. They asked who it was so I told them it was the AA so they matched their own quote

Exact same happened to me with Tesco last year.
This year my renewal premium came in £20 lower than all the comparison sites. Maybe they flagged my file?

Another vote for renewing early from me. It pays to do this.

As I have said on numerous occasions before the UK car insurance services are not fit for purpose, the public are being taken for a ride (ha ha), and the whole industry is long overdue for a review, we have all long been paying for the 'GTi' culture of the eighties, so always do a comparison, and forget loyalty.

Thumbs down Never gone down......

In all my 40 years of driving I cannot recall any insurance renewal premium being reduced due to NCB, or for just being a loyal customer. The premiums have always been higher, this was even before comparison web sites were around, even the internet (OMG, I is old). The trouble nowadays is when you get insurance via comparison sites they are always looking for new victims, so offer a reduced premium then when it comes for renewal it suddenly shoots up to mortgage rates.
The AA for example, you can get first time full breakdown cover for about £90..ish Come the renewal it shoots up to full price £240..ish
