I'm really sorry to hear that you're having problems again Andrew . I do hope that the dry noise and loss of compression is not the timing chain breaking . I once recovered a vauxhall 2.2 to the dealer with the above fault and they just ordered an engine after hearing it crank over but it was still under warranty. I'm keeping my fingers crossed mate.

Andrew the offers still open, before things start getting protracted like before then get it trailored up here and I will help you lob another engine in, plenty out there in the breakers and perhaps the cheapest option
SMC or Rover Breakers may be able to offer you one in known good running order. A long Weekend should see it done especially if a few people come to help manhandle the car from my ramp to where my hoist is, take pics, heckle etc Jules may be up for the challenge he can already get a front off faster than anyone. |

As per my previous post, can't see it being a major engine problem if it went away then returned. If anything is crackered in the enghine, it stays crackered.
A few checks needed first (IMO). Mick |

All suggestions and comments have been noted. Many thanks guys
I will compile a list of all of them and see what the garage says on Monday when they will have a look at it. Keith thanks for the offer...... will keep you (all) informed ...

If the timings work out I would be happy to come over for a day and assist in an engine swap at Keith's. I picked up CDT engine for £450 and an engine hoist for £25. Can be done in a day, especially if you don't have to swap from manual to auto! You don't even need to take the bumper off!
Let's hope it doesn't come to that but if it ends up being something below the cams it could easily start costing around that much for a garage just to strip it down and diagnose. Fingers crossed for something simple!

Hello Jim, thanks I forgot you have already done it.
I have a chain driven hoist and beam in the garage but a portable hoist might make things easier. Anyway lets see how Andrew gets on locally as getting it here will not be cheap. How many miles on the Blue one now then? |

You guys are stars..... Thanks But let's see what the diagnosis is first
Would it be "cheaper" for me to cover your travelling costs to sunny West Wales with an overnighter?

In my case, I would prefer not to cost you money. And would happily make it a day out if it materialises..

It did come with a full service history record, stamped by the same garage... No other docs however Except for the current MoT and V5. But I have already arrived at the conclusion that the garage. the one and only previous owner. was using were a bunch of lazy, lying, incestuous illegitimates!! It would seem by the condition of various items, for example, filters and fluids, that if indeed they had been changed according to the service intervals, then they had billed for work that was never done!! The state of the filters, as a prime example, were horrendous! Bearing in mind that they were apparently done just a few months before I bought her. The above is based on manufacturer's recommended service intervals as proscribed in the users' manual, and as indicated by the warranty service book. The pollen filter was very likely an original when I got her and was in an unholy state! When I changed the PCV filter, I was amazed that I had not experienced more problems! Clogged was not a word I would use to closely describe the state it was in. The air filter was black, not a deep grey or even a light grey (from the original white colour)!!. I could tell that the previous owner had kids, from the wear of the rear seats with baby seats. But she, most certainly had been well and truly ******* by the garage she used. (Not the people I bought the car from BTW) So I am now suffering from the effects of ...... (para 4 above) I have changed fluids and filters since I had her, prior to recommended service intervals, but it does look as if I am unlucky to have had (as per a previous post) a runt of the litter! Trouble is, I still love her When she behaves!! Oh, and the rear lamp clusters on one side were held in by wood screws!!!!
