Default Engine overheat

For the alst 6 months I have been telling everyone how good a car the 75 is and that nothing has gone wrong with mine and yada yada. well it was bound to bite back at some stage wasn't it?

Today the temp gauge went up in the red area and the "Engine Overheat" mesage turned on the LCD screen. The fan is running as it always has and the engine shows no sign of actually overheating. Coolant leverl is OK. The temp gauge first stays in the normal range, then it suddenlystarts wandering very quickly towards the red area. From normal to overheat it takes 10-15 seconds.

Any ideas?
