Default ECU Replaced. Car drove for a day then stopped

Hi all,
it's been few years since I last was here, but I need some help and advice please.

My parents live in Ireland and have a 2004 Rover 75 diesel auto. Their ecu got flooded and a chap said he would fix it by replacing it with any ecu and reprogramming it.

The car ran for a day and then died on their way to town and now wont start again.

They are now having immense difficulty getting hold of the original chap who replaced their ecu.

I am wondering, if I bought another replacement ecu, would someone here be able to program it to my parents car if I provided the vin number etc. I can then bring this back to them and fit it myself and hopefully get them going.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks in advance
