Redundancies :(
Yesterday I received the dreaded "You are being considered for redundancy" letter. This is round 1 and even if I am not chosen, there are highly likely to be more redundancies if work doesn't improve. Being on my own it's a huge worry - especially as it's happening to so many and jobs will be scarce. I can't pay my bills on £94 Universal Credit.

Not good news at all Dawn, sadly I feel this will be the norm in the coming months due to the current situation.

I know exactly how you feel Dawn.
I got my letter through last week. I'm still on furlough, and I've unofficially been told it's happening. I've been in a mess since I received my letter. The other major issue is, most other companies are in the same boat, so not many places are taking on new staff.

That's grim news Dawn, this is sadly something we will see repeated many times over I'm afraid.
I've always said the furlough scheme was simply a means to delay the inevitable, and companies closed for more than three months rarely if ever reopen. More thought should have been made about the real impact of the government intentionally making over 10 million redundant overnight, today has seen one of my customers closing down indefinitely and making over 50 staff redundant. The man was in tears on the phone, he couldn't afford to pay his staff any longer without income, and the prospect of no customers for him going forward, means the end has arrived for his business So just shy of 60 people so far who's working lives have been ruined as a result of ill thought out policies, for me these are not simply numbers....... I know all of these people personally I'm heading out to work next week, a friend has asked for my assistance in restarting his company, I'm looking forward to a bit of structure to my day for a change. For anyone facing redundancy you have my sympathy, the worry must be huge.
I just did a Google search jobs in Ilkeston. There are some in Nottingham so there is hope, don't let it be the end but a new beginning good luck to everyone in Dawns situation macafee2 |

I have a new partner since March. She gave up her job to move here, with the expectation of easily finding another job here, or a promise of a transfer with her then company. As she landed here, lockdown happened - so no chance of her old company offering the transfer as all their staff were furloughed.
I have helped keep her for the past few months, with a bit of income from Employment. She dropped lucky just a few weeks ago, with an agency job at a very local school and they, impressed with her efforts, local school wanting to pick up her contract over the coming summer break. She seems happy there, she only has a ten minute walk to and from work, with a regular 5 day working week. She is used to an hour travelling and working irregular silly hours.

I think I am going to try Aldi if I am chosen to go. People always need food and they seem to be recruiting. Just need to wait it out now and see what happens.
