Default Power Steering Hose

During a trip to the Alps, I hit a speedbump rather too quickly and following morning found the steering very heavy and hydraulic fluid ******* out into the engine bay, onto the campsite etc.... The local garage found that the hose was split and could not get the part. Eventually, after much ineptitude on the part of the breakdown recovery people, the car (MG-ZTT CDTi) is back in the UK.

However, Rimmers do not stock the part - saying it has been on order since the end of last year and Mark at MJN in Bristol (recomended!) has struggle to find it too.

The part description is 'Hose assembly-return gear to cooler' part number QEH000960. It is number 6 on the relevant diagram on the Rimmers webpage:

Can anybody help?

You could try a company like http://www.pirtek.co.uk/ and see if they can repair your pipe.

It's odd that there's a change for 2005 cars....I wonder if an earlier pipe could be made to fit. ???

I believe there is a company in Bristol that can make up hydraulic hoses - it is just the one 'rubber' bit which appear to be punctured. I think earlier hoses ill fit - or at least bits could be salvaged and fitted, but these do not appear to be available. If anybody is breaking please let me know if they have this part available.

No idea, but you're pretty stuck for options. It's not loads of money but I'd get a quote first for getting the original repaired

Thanks Mike,

No issues with leakage?

Pity I was not closer to Avignon when it happened!

No prob since and yes,i have a diesel

Effectively what a pity ;

i guess you keep a bad souvenir of the Provence ;some speedbumps are severe !

It happens to me after the clutch repairing .The aircon pulley rubbing against
the pipe ...i still don't know why ?
In doubt ,i improved the security with cable ties

May be the same to you ? worth having a check...

Thank you for that Mike - I will show to my mechanic when he gets the car up on the ramp.
