Hi Poppy,

If I remember correctly the bore will be wrong. Rover's is 56.1 the VW is 57.1 so a spigot ring would not help either as I don't think you would find a 1mm spigot ring.

Some people would be happy to run on the studs only but it is not recommended.

Hiya poppy I think what Derek is trying to say is some people try and hold the wheel as central as they can and tighten it up,not really recommended as it can put stress on your wheel studs( but been there and done that in my silly youth)

Hi Poppy,

Sorry to have got technical but, as you surmise, in simple terms, the answer is no.

The bore refers to the hole in the centre of the wheel which fits over the small central bearing or "hub". This is meant to be the same diameter as the "hub" so the weight of the wheel is carried on the central "hub".

Having a slightly larger bore the VW wheels would "fit" over the hub. i.e. they would be able to be put on the car. However they would be putting their weight (and therefore the weight of the car) on the 5 wheel studs instead of the hub.

Hope that explains a little clearer

Derek

The Subaru wheels have a Bore of 56.1 the same as the Rover so do fit (properly). I had a set of 17" Subaru wheels on my 75.
