I think that's a good point. The same problems can affect people in different ways. If one has a spare car, plenty of time and time to wait for spares/advice it can give you a different outlook than if you have limited time, resources and no spare car.

Our 01 CDT is now showing 184,000 odd, we got it at 166,000, I have serviced it once and changed the oil & filter twice all it's needed outside of this are 2 tyres, a rear wheel bearing and because of the wifes love of driving it with no fuel in, both fuel pumps (cheepies off ebay) had she not done so I think the originals would still be running fine..

It's not mollycoddled and I don't think it was by the previous owner either..

The V6 we just sold was basically the same with a couple of irksome little issues, but no major scares at all..

Today the 23rd of April I will mostly be: Kids, bikes, dog, kids, bikes, dog...Seems to be a pattern forming here

Car: Connie SE CDT Manual, Mods: O-Rings, Silicon intercooler hose, Stainless EGR Bypass, BMW PCV Mod, 160 Upgrade, DD Unit, Projector Headlights, Powerflex Bottom Mount, Remote Clutch reservoir, SS Compensator; Inline Stat To Come: cat gut (when replacing iffy section). Meteors after refurb..
