Just checked again and never noticed before but the 2004 clock has a thicker grey plastic surround than the others. It looks very clumsy when compared to earlier ones.

The 1's with the dots on also look like they are a smoother finish?

Yes, you're right. The black plastic around the electric windows is the same - smooth on earlier cars and a dimpled effect on later ones.
