Default smell of sulphur

Hi
I have a CDT and the last PHEW days I've notice a very strong smell of sulphur inside the cabin on start up. I had not noticed this until the recent cold snap. The car is on Jet diesel at the moment, has anyone suffered similar?

Sulphur is usually from the CAT. Often when it's not warmed up properly on a start/stop journey (rush hour traffic, for example) or when you stop the car and start it again within an hour or so.

Not being a CDT owner I'm not very up on all the smells and noises they make. Hopefully a CDT ower will be along shortly to help out. My first thought would be the CAT but a sulphur smell could be produced from other happenings too.

When you say a smell of 'sulphur' I guess you mean hydrogen sulphide (bad eggs), which is typically produced when bacteria 'feed' on something which is wet or damp and reasonably 'airtight'. It could be anything from damp carpets or sound deadening pads, to a cheap screen wash detergent. The other 'sulphur' suggestions above give rise to sulphur dioxide, which smells acrid or acidic and I wouldn't expect that to appear within the car itself. I'd survey the car for signs of dampness.

Good. Fill the bottle with a hot solution of household bleach for a few hours to sterilise it. You'll have the figure some way to empty it afterwards. Refill it with a good quality screenwash solution. That should prevent the bugs taking over again.

You can remove the bottle completely from the car. There was a guide but I can't find it... Anyays... it went something along the lines of removing the wheel arch liner and then undoing the mounting screws for the tank and removing the hoses. The tank should then wiggle out of place. I think the upper filling tube also comes off to aid removal (?).

May also be a wheel-off job too.

Once off, the tank is much easier to flush through and de-mould.

Refitting is reverse of removal.

Hope this helps!
