Default Yosemite

I upgraded from OS Mavericks to OS Yosemite last week on the laptop. All was well until today, when I inserted an SD card into the on board card reader. No sign of it being mounted on the desktop or in the finder side bar. I wanted to upload photos for editing.

Prior to the upgrade, the reader worked fine.

I went to the Apple support forums but could not find a fix.
Anyone come across this problem? Thanks

Thankyou for taking the time to reply. Mac don't make it simple to download 3rd party drivers which is not their own. I would still like to get the on board card reader to work.

I found an old multi card external USB reader, works okay

To be able to open software that is not from App Store, after trying to open in and getting the message you describe goto System Preferences>Security And Privacy you will see a button to be able to open the App (or you can change preferences to be able to open Apps from anywhere if you wish.
