Unfortunately I can't get the car to Northampton til its motd, it failed on quite a bit. I could possibly take the bits out of the car and bring them to try in another car though?

It's a few weeks til the Northants meet at Sywell, so that gives you some time yet. No need to worry about the hifi if the car's not on the road at the moment.

I can't see it being done in the next month to be honest! Its going to cost a bit, and I just don't have the money spare now. If I can get the stereo sorted in the mean time by doing some tinkering, then that's one less job that needs sorting.

Dan; if you'd like to post a summary of the failure points maybe we can make some money-saving suggestions.

Thanks simon, I did post in another thread, but the main points are,
Nearside rear suspension arm badly corroded. This is the part that the spring sits on. They said its that bad , they were surprised the spring hadn't gone through it!
Two tyres need replacing.
One CV joint cover split.
One front and one rear suspension bush needs replacing.
Back box needs replacing.

When I got the car, it came with a spare back box, so I just need to swap that over, and I'm sure the bushes and CV cover are fairly easy too, but I can't find any real info on changing the suspension arm.

Hi Dan,did you ever get your Hi Line display sorted out?Mine works ok but does not seem sharp enough in daylight.Maybe it's me not used to it yet.
May also be on the lookout for another one if it is dull, forgot to compare it with others at the Sywell meet last Sunday.Regards Ryszard..

My Highline was doing weird things, no display although the back light was on, the unit was dead sometimes except the back light or would be working on the radio but no display, no controls working so stuck on the same radio station without being able to turn off or turn the volume down, turned out to be the k-bus, the carpets were wet from the sunroof drain tube and I believe there is a connector under the drivers carpet, so just ran a new wire through and it worked. But the navigation drive died and was killing my battery so have a Navall unit in there now.

If you are keeping the car and have no intention of selling it, go for the DD unit, fit it without chopping out any of the old loom and keep the original units you remove so they can be refitted.

I did exactly this and kept the old units (factory fitted stuff) for 6 years in the garage, when I decided I was never going to refit them, I sold them and got about £150 for everything.

My car will never be sold, I will keep it until it just becomes stupidly expensive to repair, after all I would only get about a grand if I ever sold it and what could I replace it with for the same money?
