Which famous rock star was denied the name he gave himself because of a Monty Python star, and why?

Ok, it had something to do with Eric, and the 'pop star' became famous at the end of the 70's and is now doing another American tour and released his book last year.

This must be the first one unsolved.

Billy Idol at school had a report that was marked with the teacher adding that 'William is idle'. With all the punk names like 'Rotten' and 'Vicious' in the punk era he wanted to call himself Billy Idle.
When he tried to get the right to his band name, Eric Idle from Monty Python threatened to sue him for the use of his name.
So Billy changed it to Idol.
