Hi i have only just started to use the lights and i have noticed that the headlight beam seems to throw out approx 3 meters on the ground in the shape of a sort of v ? maybe its just me i havnt touched or adjusted lights since last mot but they just dont seem to be up enough ? i can see that everything moves ok so just confused . im trying to find away of checking that they are at the right hight ie 10 feet from fence headlight beam should be 1.5m from ground ....thanks

The lights should be 1% so 10meters from the headlight the top of the beam should be 10 cm lower than at the headlight.
If it were 1.5m at 10 m then you would blind everyone

Set up the car in front of a screen as described. The dipped beam should produce something like this -



The top of the horizontal part should be lower than the headlamps centre as described by Klarzy. The left 'kick-up' section is built-in. The horizontal level is adjusted for each lamp using the manual adjusters under the bonnet. They look like this -




You can only get them approximate by this method. Accurate beam setting needs a test rig used by garages. This adjustment is independent of the automatic self-test seen at ignition on (every fifth or so I believe).
