Bumper-to-wing gap
Hi all, how can I reduce the gap between the part of the front bumper that meets the wings.? Is it necessary to remove the bumper.?

I understand that the Mark 2's large bonnet gap was a sort of design oversight. I read somewhere that the curvature of the bonnet edge and the top of the grill are different, so they will never 'fit' properly. However, some members have managed to reduce the gap considerably by judicious use of penny washers under the top edge of the bumper moulding. This requires the bumper to be removed and 'warped' back into a better fit. I still intend to do mine when I've finished all my other chores.

There is a very simple cure for the MKI ZT..... Pop the front bumper off, loosen the 8 bolts holding the armature on. One trolley jack in the middle of it and gently raise it until it's at the top of the bolt holes. Re tighten the 8 bolts. Remove the jack. Re fit the bumper, and start in the middle and work towards the wings. Gentle use of the knee to push it in, and you can get the gap to a more realistic size....Tighten the top row of bumper mounting bolts first. This is how it used to look....

The gap is entirely personal choice. Most prefer it to be quite tight along the shutline, but you must remember that if you have the bonnet-release mechanism that is above the bumper (rather than through the grille) you must leave yourself enough of a gap so that when the bonnet is popped you can still get your fingers underneath to release the lever
