Well I managed to check the balance flap today - I was hoping to do it on Saturday but the weekends just fly by!
I removed the flap from the actuator and checked its movement. A little pressure is required to move it from the closed position but only an amount which can be easily exerted by fingertips, other than that it seems to move easily. However, I noticed that the flap was closed when I removed it (by closed I mean that the flap was flush with its housing and not perpendicular to it). Is this the correct position as SD1Too's post seems to indicate that the flap should be open upon removal? John |

Hi John.
Take a quick look at this video towards the end you will see how then balance flap settles after engine is turned off, or in this case how the flap settled after the manifold was removed from the car. Quick video of how the power flaps on a V6 MGZT can get damage, resulting in the death rattle, in this case total failure, also the balance is very gummed up with oil. https://youtu.be/eIlJJzvJxyk

The next step is to check that the actuator is working. As a subscribed member you can borrow the club’s testing box free of charge or, if you have access to a T4, it can be checked in minutes. Simon
