I considered MDF but in the event of a leak damp will affect MDF more than it does plywood.

I think i'll have to do this soon.
Also i need a New Handle I broke mine off. I may go for Heavier ply and do a recess on the back for the handle if necessary Paul. |

Don't forget the carpet clips as well. They and the handle fit 6mm ply but anything thicker and they won't.

Yes you have to recess the handle if you use thicker than 6mm & as Steve mentions the 6mm is fine for the clips but if you use thicker you again need to recess these like I did Do the recess first with a Flat bit or an auger & by the time you're deep enough for the clip to fit you shouldn't have to make the center hole much bigger. Did Bumbles in ply and coated in Yacht varnish....nice upgrade from the saggy hardboard one
