4litres is surely nearly full capacity. Even with lubricity of diesel is that not going to be too thin, possibly even igniting in the cylinder? I would be fearful of running for 10 minutes let alone driving?
I used to drain my oil, then add a litre of diesel to the cheapest oil I could get changing the filter at the same time. Drive for 10 miles to my parents and 10 miles back. This allowed the oil to settle again, before going back 10 miles home to change properly with a filter. Doing this procedure twice over a year saw my oil remain relatively clear between 6000 mile services for the remaining two years of owning the car. I only did this on one car as the 2.99 gallon oil disappeared, soon after I stopped working at the motor spares store. Sent from my SM-A600FN using Tapatalk

My 75 KV6 joined my collection 5 months ago and its oil change was due. Drained the oil and added some fresh 10w40 full synthetic (Mobile). But then, when pooring the old oil from the catch pan into a container I found the crush washer. Apparently I dropped it into there after refitting the drain plug. So I had to start over again, this time making sure not to lose the washer .
The engine is a lot quieter now as compared to when it ran on the Motul oil the previous owner used. Changed the gearbox oil also, just to be sure. The drained oil didn't look bad. Repairs done so far: - VIS replacement (DMGRS) - Thermostat replacement, including pipework - Crank sensor replacement - Brake lines replacement above/next to the fuel tank - In-tank-fuel pump replacement - LSM replacement None of these repairs came as a surprise as the car came to me for only EUR 600.00. Next to be done: Replace the brushes of the radiator fan. Paint the sills, it was done in the past after welding, but not pretty. |

Had a good head scratch over what to do next with my heap of junk....sorry, Rover 75.
Compression test is OK, bit of variation between cylinders but not unexpected given the manual work done to the head. Leak-down test is absolutely fine. No manifold or exhaust leaks (contrary to what a local garage tried to tell me). And yet it still runs incredibly rich with the fuel trim all the way negative (lean). Won't idle without some throttle when cold. Fuel pressure regulator? Partially blocked IACV? |

After the MOT pass, last week, of the "Silver Slug", (the diesel auto ) today it was the V6's turn.
It went straight through with no advisories, apart from the tester advising that it is a lovely clean old Rover.

Not today but yesterday. Put the new rear nearside disc and pads on Mo. Went round to do the offside and voila!
After taking the old disc off I discovered one of the central retaining pins for a brake shoe, rattling round the drum. It was this that was responsible for Mo occassionally slowing down. Obviously it kept getting jammed between the brake shoe and the drum wall. It wasn't the cam position sensor, nor the spark plugs, but a loose pin. However, it also revealed another problem. The pin had come out because the part of the backplate which holds it in place had pulled through. I quickly ordered a new pair of backplates from Mat at DMGRS, together with a new fuel filter for Kim. But because it's a bank holiday they might not arrive until Tuesday. Giving me a few days to get them on before making a second attempt to visit MickyBoy and Rick_Sta on Friday (hopefully).

Drove back from Cornwall. Lovely 5 hour cruise thankfully heading in the opposite direction to the jams
Long time since I've been down there and I was really pleased to be in an auto. Oh, and good to see a Rover garage in Mousehole. WP_20190523_14_43_27_Pro (2).jpg

After cleaning out a load of leaves and tree pollen from my van whilst changing the pollen filter, I decided to use my recently acquired Dyson car cleaning kit and gave the tourer a good vacuuming and clean on the inside.
Gave the all windows in and out a quick polish with glass cleaner while I was at it. I'll save washing the outside for another day Stuck a set of pre project drive door reflectors on the doors. Fitted the set of coolant header tank pressure cap seals I found this week after not being able to find them since January. Should hopefully stop the leaks now. Topped up the window wash. Discovered that cooling fan is not switching on with Aircon. Aircon is working though, more investigation required. |
