I'm a big fan of Avons even though they're no longer British owned/made.
Bought a set in Oct17 for £230 and 20,000 later they're still pretty good.

Just reading this for the first time.
The first thing that jumps to mind which we don't in the the UK but our European friends do is fit seasonal tyres. I have friends in Germany and they have 2 X sets of wheels for their cars and the winter tyres go on late Autumn. There are not many in the UK who do this but it must make a difference but obviously cost is more On my Supra I normally run Vredisteins who a lot of owners recommend and/ or Goodyear's. Because I have aftermarket wheels it is a bit of trial and error but after 10 years of ownership I have kind of settled to the tyres I know work. On the ZTs I have normally run Firestone and/or continentals which seem fairly good. The big thing with our cars now will be suspension where the suspension will be 20-25 years old and way past its best tbh. This will cause all sorts of wear issues and is the same on most older cars. One thing I have always noted is that front wheel drive cars who pull the car and steer it as well tend to eat tyres quicker than rear wheel drive cars but they just be me. Then there is tyre compound. Sounds very F1 but it's true. I found Toyos wore very quickly on my Sup. We can buy tyres with softer compounds but they will wear faster. I still do think (disagreeing with some of the statements) that the better quality tyres should last longer but I do agree they may not suit the car you drive and not be as efficient.

Over tightening the bolts runs the risk of corrosion between the bolts and wheels, because of the dissimilar metals, which can add to the difficulty of removal.

I had some BCT tyres supplied with a set of 17" straights. They looked new were very good in the dry but in the wet it was like driving on ice, they were very dangerous. Replaced them with Avon ZV5s and I was very happy with those as an all season tyre and had no issues with them.
Changed the car which came with three makes of Chinese ditch finders which were within a couple of weeks replaced with Avon ZV7s. Happy with these for a while then noticed the braking distance seemed to be lengthening and varying. Checked out the brakes all sound there. Then it was noticed that all four tyres were cracking at the base of the tread. As these tyre were 2 yrs old still well within the 6 year guarantee given and had only covered 3000 miles I contacted the manufacturers who told me it was a known fault. They blamed it on EU regs. on rubber compounds and it was showing up on low usage cars. Most have worn out apparently before it shows. They said " we HOPE we have fixed it now but will only know in time". They told me to return them to the suppliers they will send them back to them and I will get a refund based on wear. This is the tyre manufacturers association rules and the only way they will work The tyres were supplied by two different companies, one has given me a realistic refund, the second nothing. The tyres have got lost in transit so no inspection no refund. Did I not expect that. Yes I did. Now using Khumo and very happy with them, I think they perform overall better than the ZV7s |

When I bought my MG ZS 5 years ago, it had a set of nearly new Landsail tyres on.
They are still on. ( All but 1 as I had a puncture too close to the side wall for the tyre place to repair. ) I had never heard of them and was suspicious about how they would perform, but I can honestly say that I have been more than happy with them. Wet weather driving never concerned me. Even enthusiastic driving in the wet and they hugged the tarmac as if it where dry. But. Road noise. Oh my! What a din! I took all my carpets out of the car and fitted extra sound proofing, but it never really sorted the problem. Now I've not experienced them on a ZT / R75, just my ZS which is much lighter, but if your hearing isn't up to much anyway, as a budget tyre I rate them for safety. Noise level though, they aught to come with ear defenders! Just my 2 pence worth!
