Is it wrong that I found this mod infinitely more exciting and impressive than I ought to have? Because I'm rubbish at anything mechanical and electrical, anything like this is akin to sheer wizardry. I'm impressed with the simplicity of the idea and the excellence of the execution.

What is the purpose of the LED surely you don't want to draw attention to the switch. Can we do without it?

I already have a few of these switches waiting for a job to do,
just looked at the switch link again, and they have changed. The stainless steel ones are a lot better! you want these, or something similar https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Stain...IAAOSw0Ltecg1F

OK just for the record, seeing as the Q was asked.
I have a Mk1 saloon, 53 reg. test 1:- Sitting in the car, I turned the engine off, and the key was in the '0' position. Then with the between-seats switch, I locked the car. I then operated the A-post button to unlock the boot. This worked; the boot unlocked, there was no alarm. test 2:- I removed the key and repeated test 1. Same result - boot open, no alarm. The between-seat button obviously only does the central locking, not the alarm function. test 3:- With the key in position '0' again, I tried locking the car with the fob. Impossible to lock the car with the fob, if the key is in the ignition lock. test 4:- The key was now removed again, and the fob used to lock the car. Central locking now worked. Pressing the A-post button would not allow the boot to open, but sounded the alarm. Hope this helps. Stewart |

Yes Rick, the original link took you to one one those nice stainless buttons like you used, but it then changed to a poor looking plastic affair.

That's odd, the link I posted still works for me, still sends me to the stainless switch button I used.
