I like the idea of a cheap fix for a persistent very slight weep, shame that it's a bit of a faff to remove though.
That is why i am gathering all the bits for the job in advance and will refurb them all before embarking on the work on the engine. Have the alternator to rebush, then this pas pump, then purchase belts etc, and will get the front end off to give everything a good sorting once i am ready.

I would give steering seals an email with a picture of your pump. They seem pretty knowledgable from my contact with them so far.

This arrived this morning. Not stripped the pump down yet but the seals look the right shape and arrived very quickly from steering-seals.

Great service from them. Just remember to phone them if you want one as it is not listed on their website.

Just been made aware that this company are no longer operating with the links posted in this thread. Does anyone know of an alternative for this type of seal?

The pump is a QVB101391, or Hobourn Eaton HE1205095/13.

FYI the TD4 has a different Rover part number, QVB101453, whether it takes the same gasket (as has been suggested) is unknown.

My SD1 had a leaking steering rack and a friend gave me some magic potion called "Omega" - didn't really believe it but tried it and it worked. Note it was the rack rather than the pump that was leaking.

Worked a treat on mine. I had a leak from the end of the steering rack so tried some and it has been fine for a fair few years now.
There is an additive in the fluid which swells the seals - tempted to pour some in my clutch hydraulics to cure the leaking slave cylinder.

Replied to your PM Mark, but just in case anyone else is wondering I'll post it here as well:

Just checked my service records and it was 8 years ago. Unfortunately I can't remember the make of fluid I used and I didn't make a note of it, but it was something similar to this:
