When cranking the engine, is the fuel pump running continuously?

The same happened to me this week. Can I ask had the filter separated? Mine had. After tightening the top and placing the clip it still did not start. Then I took the top off, noting first that there was no pressure in the fuel line and second that the seal was not visible. I fished the seal out of the bowl with a flat head screwdriver. It looked ok but I fitted a new one. Then the car started immediately. I know you have done this but if your fuel filter had definitely separated then might be worth rechecking all before looking for another fault?

New update:
I'm an idiot. As I said earlier: I had replaced the o-ring and had only found a small piece of the old one. I didn't think any further on it, really, but with Cantray's remark of fishing the seal out with a screwdriver, I thought "what if the old ring is still somewhere in there..." Anyway, the old, broken o-ring was still in there (it was in one piece, save the part I'd already taken out). After removing this old ring and reassembling, the car started! Thanks a million to you all, I'm genuinely thrilled that my car works again! |

Thanks for posting the solution Erik. It's information like this which is vital to keep our cars in good order at minimal cost to owners.
