I'm just pondering, assuming payment will be made after the accrued charges are applied, what will be the result should the card be rejected for whatever the reason lack of funds etc ?.

Would the bill payer be banned from using the roads ? How could they prevent him running up huge mileage charges ? If the miscreant is paying his domestic electric bills, they won't cut his supply, thus off he trundles each day.

I don't profess to have any answers, just pondering.

Apparently they will be able to track your car by where you plug in to recharge it.

The government has your National Insurance number, your taxpayer reference/ UTR number, your date and place of birth, your address, your place of work. It knows how much you earn, whether you're married and to whom, whether you have children and if so, their names, their ages and where they go to school. If you've ever paid for your fuel with a card or with an app, there's a record of where you were when you bought it, and ANPR can probably track how you got there. If you withdrew cash to pay for it, there's a record of that too. If you have a mobile phone, your precise location is known at all times. If you or people you know have a Facebook account, they also have data on you.

There's no need to use the EV charging network to track you or your car. It's already happening, and has been for decades.

I believe the government should know all about us, it helps to combat terrorism, national security, fraud etc.

The idea is to keep everyone safe, if it can help with law enforcement, that can only be a good thing.

Which makes you wonder why so many people were against a national ID card. Costly to set up but could have so many advantages. Other European countries have them and a legal requirement to carry at all times yet here its seen as big brother and an infringement of ones civil liberties. What tosh

Other European countries may have them, but they are able to use them in lieu of passports - which under the proposals we would not be able to do, also they are issued for free where as our government wanted to charge us about £60 each for one!

The chip built into your car would simply shut down the engine.
