Mot pass
Passed this morning .Usual stupid advisory of "grease on brake pipes"I am actively seeking to have this removed from being an advisory on test results.

[QUOTE=Rev Jules;2855689]How about.
Engine under tray/ engine cover/ to much underseal/ tyres past their sell by date meaning to old???. Rev.[/QUOTE tyres past their sell by date meaning to old???. not often seen because the tyres usually are out of tread before they get that old not sure if it can be a fail if the tyres are in OK condition but it's an advisory that I've seen before. Here's some official type info All tyres have a life span and a date stamp on the sidewall showing the week and the year it was manufactured. So 2206 means the tyre was made in the 22nd week of 2006. You should never use tyres over five years old whether or not the tyre is being used, as the rubber in a tyre degrades over time. I got a "car is heavily undersealed" advisory this year. I apologised and straight faced promised to try to bring something rusty and full of holes next time. Last edited by Ian G; 24th December 2020 at 08:42.. |

The age of tyres has long been an issue that the MoT test hasn't tackled, until recently.
Caravan owners have long been advised to replace tyres after 5 years, even though there'll be minimal wear. This is because low mileage and standing still for long periods, especially in the sun, doesn't do tyre materials any favours. The rubber has compounds in it that needs regular flexing to release chemicals that keep the rubber pliable. If the tyre doesn't get that treatment then the rubber goes harder and brittle, shown up by myriads of tiny crazing on the surfaces. This makes the tyre more prone to catastrophic blow outs. Classic cars often do very low mileage and their tyres can suffer the same issues unless they're used as a daily driver. So it's always best to swap tyres out at 5 years old, no matter whether the tread is still good. The same issue applies to motorhomes/campervans for the same reason. |
