Well, I managed to flush the gearbox twice with the Biltema oil. However, the car goes now forward and at least gears 1, 2 and 3 work but 4, 5 and Reverse won‘t work for some reason. Also the gearbox wants to rev the engine when changing up for some reason. The oil level should be fine, but I‘ll check it later again

It is my understanding that the symptoms you now describe indicate a fault with the reverse piston.

But what if they removed the wrong fill bolt first, the wrong bolt can also result in loss of reverse and loss of performance

Well well, me and my mechanic took a second look into the gearbox and it seems that the reverse piston did in fact split in 2. That piston also apparently ruined all my friction plates, so I guess do your research before you get a 75 auto. Luckily my mechanic admitted their mistake and I won‘t have to pay a penny to get her back on the road. But luckily he managed to fix the 45s numerous issues, so I don‘t have to resort to walking

Just as an alternative thought, I found this oil for my auto box.

A lot of owners get the auto after doing research into manuals and esp the clutch

Thanks for letting us know. Just so I understand, was their mistake removing the wrong bolt to check the level which resulted in the inner stuff loosening or detaching which damaged the reverse piston?

We found out that the box was under-filled with an incompatible liquid. Combine that and a few thousand miles, yeah not a surprise. They were convinced that they did assemble the gearbox coorectly

i believe the faulty reverse piston was a recall back in the day where some of the early 75s up to about mid 2002 were fitted with a faulty reverse piston (its actually a crack in the parts housing)
It seems that this fault either happens early in the cars life or in some cases many years later.
Jatco made an updated replacement part to fix the issue.

Well, it sure took a while but the stunner is back on the road. I managed to strike a deal, a reverse piston and friction plates £90 delivered. My mechanic installed the parts today and flushed the gearbox once more. She now works better than ever. I am happy to finally declare this problem solved
