Default Fuel Consumption

Got meself a 2003 Club SE Tourer CDTi Auto. Still at the stage of playing with the various toys on it. Got a few questions to members if I may. The screen in the dash that tells you the mpg. On tick over what would it normally read? At 60mph and cruise turned on I get a reading from 30 to 40 mpg, this is mainly on level cabbageway. Would members think this is normal or on the low side? According to the service history the next service is'nt for another 3,000 miles.

Thats quite low for a diesel should average mid 40's upward.
Will drop around town a bit
and a lot more down to 29MPG if purely in towns if a Auto.
The gearbox will not go into Top gear on the Auto box till engine up to temperature, so on a short run will drink fuel.
I average between 44MPG to 52MPG on Motorways using Cruise.
Think the MAF for starters needs a looking at.
Also check the Air Filter isn't filthy.

Hi - this is my second post - I put this on another part of the forum but thought I'd try here too

I have an MG ZT-T CDTI Estate - 03 plate - 49k on the clock and my trip computer mpg never seems to go above 34mpg no matter how I drive or what type of journey it is.

Pootling to work and back - 6 miles urban = 33 mpg
268 mile long run up motorways at a sustained (shall we say) tad over 70mph = 34mpg

I thought diesels were supposed to do much higher mpgs.

Last oil service and filter change 6K miles ago.

What do you reckon??

I get 600 miles from a tank on average from my Auto.. Have heard manuals can get 700! But still, 600 from an Auto makes me smile

To find out that the car is really doing to the gallon your have too..

Fill untill the pump cuts out, then reset the trip to zero, drive the car for at least half a tank is gone, then fill up till pump cuts out again.

Now make a note of the amount of fuel it took to refill the car, and look to see how many miles are recorded on the trip meter.

Use this site to get the results in MPG for the trips you have made during the test..

I think I need to be looking at my maf then as I get around 42mpg to 46 highest I've ever seen it and most of my journey is dual carraige way and motorway, and mines a manual. it's done 191k miles so probably need it checking, but it's not sluggish on pull away, are there any other sypmtoms of maf failure? I thought that economy was good and just down to my car being remapped

Mine only had 79,000 miles on it when I bought it, and the MAF wasn't just performing poorly, it was completely shot.. I'd say after 191K your MAF is probably next to useless by now..
