Engine wont turn over
Hi
Went to start my car Rover 75 1.8 petrol this morning. Turned the key, dash lights up but nothing else. No clicks or half turns just dead. Ive checked the battery and its fully charged. Has anyone any experience or advice as to where to start looking? Thanks in advance. |

Whilst perhaps not the cause, the battery may be duff.
It can measure 12v but when you turn the ignition key to try and start the car, the voltage can drop to such a low level it wont turn the engine over. Any chance you could try and jump start the car? Stuck starter motor? macafee2 |

Is the fuel pump sounding, as in that initial purge?

Make sure the battery connections are clean and fitted properly, happened to me and refitted the terminals. Do the headlights flash when trying to start?

Sorted it!
Thanks for the suggestions, Ive disconnected the starter motor connections and sprayed them with electrical cleaner. Low and behold it started fine. As usual thought the worst and most difficult but as is often the case it was the simplest and most obvious.

Well done, I think most of us will have experienced that at some time.

Reckon the 1.8 must be notorious for that as I used to have the same issue on my old ZS.
