They are a very complex job as are wet belts, meaning they run through the engines oil as opposed to conventional belts like on 75's which run externally.

There are lots of horror stories regarding the problems on these engines, oil starvation and ultimately engine failure caused by bits of rubber breaking off the belt and blocking the oil pick up, hence the Ecoboom nickname!

yes it is an 1.0 Ecoboost.

There's a garage in Saxilby near Lincoln called EcoPro who specialise in rebuilding 1.0 EcoBoost engines. Last I heard he charges about £800 to change a wet belt on one of these engines. The job requires about £200 of parts, expensive specialist tools (hence why most garages will not do them) and about 10 hours of labour.

As for KV6 timing belts it cost me £635 to have mine done with a service and new auxillary belt fitted at MG Rover Repair in Coventry.

That is a deal, Ford quote about £1250 - £1300 for the infamous 1.0 eco boom belt change.

I put down £100 overnight on a fiesta 5 months ago with the intention of completing the next morning and was mortified to discover the the horror story behind what the trade calls the eco boom engine.

I spoke to a specialist local garage who have been so concerned that they have dedicated a full page on their website warning about the eco boost engine as they see so many totally wrecked engines when the oil pickup clogs up with the shredded cam belt.

They are one of the few garages that will deal with the eco boost cambelt change and charge between £1200 and £1400 depending on if they also change the pump.

Needless to say I pulled out of the sale 8am the next morning.

For KV6 belt changes look no further than Lates near Dunchurch Warks. I use him everytime do the job while you wait. They can do these with their eyes closed.

I spoke to the chap at EcoPro today, thanks for the heads up. I have never known a car mechanic to have such a long waiting list, I hope this means he is good. Booked in for the last Monday in ...November. £908 all in.
Over a days work, almost 2.

How did you know about him?

I'm afraid my nephew was not so lucky with his eco boost engine. Had to be replaced with another unit. £3450 with a new clutch dropped in whilst it was apart.
