Default HK ICE upgrade

Hi All

I was lucky enough to buy this kit from SMC, however, I would benefit from some clues as to how to fit it!

I currently have a symphony HU fitted

All help appreciated

Did you get any harness?

That would make it quite easy, otherwise you have some wiring to do....

The 4 speaker outputs from the back of your symphony need to be fed to the amplifier that will live behind the carpet on the RHS, where the PDC unit is if you have it. Two permanent power feeds and an activation wire also run from the front to the back.

The four speaker outputs from the amp run back to the front, and connect up to feed the wires to the speakers that you unplugged to take the feeds to the amp.

All speaker wires should be twisted pair.

Two subwoofer feeds go from the amp to the sub, again twisted pair.

Sub itself fixes to the bottom of the parcel shelf.

Hope this is a starter, feel free to ask any specifics, but PM me if I don't respond as I don't always read the ICE forum.

For info have retrofitted (98%) a saloon and (100%) tourer recently.

Hi!

No, no harness (except the connector plugs into the amp and the lead from the amp to the Sub) I do have 6 inches or so of the speaker wires so can feed off those forward to the door speakers

Presumably its best to just unpug the speakers to remove them from the "old" part of the loom and then run fresh wires forward from the amp to the speakers?

Up to you.

The 'proper' install runs the speakers all the way to the front, and plugs in to the existing harness, which then runs it back to the doors. All done by putting a Tee connector in between the radio and the harness. Does mean a lot of wire between the amp and the speakers, so you need to use thick cable to keep the resistance down.

On the 'proper' install, the battery feed is also picked up at this point.

It's basically the same idea as the satnav add on wiring. In fact if you have both, the wiring for the HK system and the satnav are in the same add on harness.

Hope this makes sense!

Oh ta, now I see

Might see if I can pick up a loom......failing that its "get creative" time!

It had crossed my mind to just replace the drivers & tweets in the doors, fit the sub and then use my 4 ch alpine amp to pick up speaker level inputs to drive the sub..might even sound better!

Again up to you.

The amp has equalisation to compensate for the installation and so on, so ought to sound OK. I haven't replaced the speakers as I didn't get hold of them. But I will be doing as the standard ones didn't sound good today when I turned up the volume.
