Might have been an undercover cop car, or an advanced cop training car. They are always out around here doing as quick as the ST220's let them. Not unknown for them to be doing 150mph down country roads, and they are allowed to do it.

Unlikely Gary.

They tend to use newer cars for that sort of training.

I think what Alan is trying to say is that speed alone doesn't kill, its speeding at the wrong time or in the wrong conditions which leads to trouble. There are a hell of a lot of drivers out there who don't speed but who in my opinion are a lot more unsafe on the roads than people who occassionally break the speed limit like myself.

A few examples;

Tailgating
People on phone whilst driving
Bad lane composure
Late braking due to lack of reading the situation
Middle lane dawdlers
Overtaking at wrong time
Impatience

The list could go on.

Agree totally with the above. Many moons ago, as part of my job then, I had to undergo police driver training. It was an exhausting but very rewarding 4 week course building up to serious speeds in Senators, Mondeo V6's etc. You were pushed to the limit but at all times safe as houses as you were always assessing the situation in advance, anticipating the actions of other road users, understanding the capability of the car etc. So speed generally in the right hands (I've lost my edge long ago ) should be safe however there are many numpties that think they know it all but don't then add speed, lack of road awareness, bravado etc and you have a dangerous mix.
