Default Auto gear box on V6

I have had my V6 with auto gearbox since October 2009, but find it will not change up to 5th gear until doing over 60mph.
Is there a knack to getting it change up earlier or is it factory set to change up only when going at over 60mph?
As there are no Motorways in Cornwall, if you drive within the legal speed limit the gearbox will never change up to 5th gear !!!!!!
Can anyone help? Thanks

Normally changes with revs rather than just the speed.
You could do a battery re-set and let it learn your driving style again.
On my diesel it drops into 5th at around the 36mph mark.

The other thing is to get the Gearbox oil changed and use correct type.
May be overdue for a change if not done at correct interval, but don't think this would normally be the problem of non change.

Not by any chance using the 'Sport' Auto box setting are you ??

This does restrict use of 5th gear - at least it does on mine on the rare occason that I use it.

In my ZT the 5th gear change happens between 50 and 60 if the car continues to accelerate. Backing gently off the throttle at any speed over about 40 causes it to change up to 5th almost immediately. In sport mode 5th is never selected, that is normal.

If you read the bumph on the box you will probably find it advises you to select 4th for normal driving, that's because it can't get into top at less than a certain speed/rev range..

My 75 wont normally go into top at less than 45 mph, so round town I try to remember only to select 4th.. My ZX is exactly the same wont go into 4th (top) under 38mph ish..

If you live in Cornwall then you are rarely if ever going to be able to use the top gear.. You wouldn't be able to use the old "overdrive" system much either for the same reasons.. But at least you got water to look at now and then.. heh heh.. Your neighboring counties, Devon and Dorset have much the same problems. Devons got a bit of the M5 in it but Dorset's got zilch!

mine will generally change into fifth at between 55-65mph. if im accelerating onto a motorway, wont change until around 65. if im going steady on a straight road, light throttle it will change at around 55. all figures quoted in economy mode (normal) however, as said, wont go into fifth at all in sport (driving within the legal limit)
not really worth changing into fifth on A and B roads anyway, no power in fifth so it would have to change down
as for getting it into fifth at 55/60, you have to be really light with the throttle, nearly off it if youve recently adjusted the cable, or near the start of the play if you havnt (if you understand what im trying to say)
