Hello Trevor,
It's probably the same thing; the CD is not being read. Mine did this the other day and I think the mechanics need lubricating because I could see that the disc was not being withdrawn properly into the drive. If the whirling sound was heard after the car had been recently locked, it could be the video module cooling fan which runs on for a period. If you ever tinker under the bonnet, remember not to disconnect the battery until the sat. nav. computer's red LED has extinguished (it will remain lit for a while after the car was last used). Simon.

The whirling sound appears to be the unit ejecting the disc, I put it back in after cleaning it but it didn't do any good and as I was talking to the wife about what to do next the unit ejected the disc on its own.
How does one go about lubricating the unit? Trevor

I've just seen someone who knows abit about these items and after checking it over and disconecting the unit he reckons the lazer isn't reading the disc either the disc is not in properly in or the lazer needs cleaning. Taking the cover of and cleaning it your self is not easy, so he suggests rather than send it away to be done get an upgrade or a new unit. Does anyone have any info on this matter.

As he agrees with you then he knows as much as you, and as he's in the I.C.E. trade I expect he knows more than you.
