My practical experience with air leaks on the inlet manifold on the KV6 is a tickover of around 2000 revs, not lumpy. ( often forget to make sure the seal is back on the VIS motor )

I would certainly be having a look at the basics such as the quality of the plugs etc. Tracking to ground on the the front bank HT leads is not unknown. Sounds silly but run it up with the engine cover off in the dark, if there are any suspect leads then you will most certainly see them. The quality and security of both front and rear bank coil pack earth points should be checked. (ring connector under a 10mm nut at the front and bolt on the back). Just don't run the car with them disconnected as ECU coil pack damage can result. Hope that helps and forgive me if you have aready checked my suggestions.

Is it a rhythemic hunting, like a pulse up and down, if so it sounds like a sticky IAC valve to me.

This is air related. You can put your hand over the large air intake orrifice amd there is little or no feel of sucking. You can put your thumb over the small intake above it and it is sucking hard. The wrong way round I think?
