Default Laptop hard drive HDD2188 died.

Oh bother my 4 year old Laptop 80 Gb hard drive has finaly died RIP

All is not lost however as it gave me a couple of weeks warning ie some clicking noises and beeps during boot up.

So I backed all my important stuff up before she finally blew. Phew.

Laptop "Gericom" originally from Aldi ! has given great service for 4 years with 4 hours a day usage! Not one once of bother from the Software or Hardware.

Thinking of just buying a hard drive to give it new lease of life.
2 min job and 1 screw to remove it!
It's a Toshiba HDD2188 MK 8025GAS now superseeded I believe by a 5400RPM

It's generic so I don't have to stick to Toshiba & most makes have a 3 year warranty.

Any advice or Good suppliers of hard drives welcome. Seen some for 79 dollars.
So a lot cheaper than a new laptop.

I personally prefer Hitchai drives, not sure how their 2.5 drives are.

I think the drive you select depends on the capacity you need. You can get 80GB for £40-50.

I don't usually use these kind websites but they do give an idea of pricing and availability

Try Dabs.com

http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx...fset=10#Paging

I have always found them good for components.
Your hard drive is 80gb so don't get smaller, the price difference isn't much.

Don't think I'll be able to shoe horn a 500 Gb drive into my Laptop though

I'm back on Friday Jules and have some Hard Drive 2.5" for laptops in the workshop, or Trade supply for 100GB/120GB etc.
If you can wait, be in touch Friday,
otherwise go ahead, most modern ones are now 5400rpm and all will do the job you want, the ones with a bigger cache work out better value and faster.

Cor , was just about to order one through Amazon from States!!

I'll hang on for one of your drives, as I'm off to France shortly.
Just finished re assembling our beloved CDT. Now kitted out

ie New fan motor ( with Modded resistor of course)
Oil change and filters
Ron's Tu3
Winggy's EGR bypass kit (revs like a banchi now)

So see you to sort things when we get back.
