Default Battery disconnection/retaining code

I'm sure i can remember reading or being told that it is possible to retain the code/settings on the ICE when disconnectiong the battery,in other words maintaining the power supply to it.Or have i got this wrong?

The reason i would like to be able to do this is twofold, firstly it would save the need to restore the iGO settings on my DD and secondly i have a car wth a radio code i don't know.

You can keep things running with a small 12v battery connected via the ciggy lighter socket - providing the socket normally remains powered with the ignition off. Another way would be to clip the small battery directly across the main batteries lugs. When doing this, you need to be very careful to not short the battery lugs, or short the positive one to ground and include a fuse in line with the small battery.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

On the facelift / MkII it is permanently live, but you need to be sure you don't pop the ciggy lighter fuse - by ensuring everything is turned off. Centre contact is +ve /positive.
