MG Owners - Something to consider
For those MG cars are going to be ten years old this year, any MG ten years or older qualifies for complete classic insurance as ive had several companies point it out to me when getting this years quote in March there.
Now ive noticed many people commenting on their car getting old, and maybe selling on etc, but I did a rough classic quotebased on the current climate with my own insurance company on the ZT for next year, and its only £160 quid with all the benefits of my normal policy, agreed value, 5000 miles per year, covering my modifications also. Worth bearing in mind, especially for people who are members of the MGCC or the MGOC who are registered with the Motor Sports Association UK (FIA) and is the recognized standard for both autosport and historical owners clubs operating with the united kingdom. Basically if your owners club (like the 75 and zt club sadly) isnt recognized by the MSAUK then it wont benefit you for classic insurance and so on. Additionally it makes it MUCH easier getting liability insurance for events and meetings. http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/localG...p?category=469 An interesting link for everyone.

When I had my ZR (54 reg) I had it on a classic policy from when I bought it in 2008 - so it was only 4 years old; got it through Lancaster Classic Insurance.
So, you don't have to wait until the car is 10 before getting a classic policy for it. Unless what you refer to is something different to what I was using from LCI?

Ah, I forgot that in NI we have slightly different insurance requirements than the mainland for ages and such.
What was the cost for the ZR, outta curiousity?

That's great news for the MG owners. It slightly irks me though because my car went down the same production line at the same time as the ZT, but I can't get sensible insurance for it. The Porsche is costing me half as much to insure!

Oh yes indeed. Absolutely crazy that one can insure a MG190 on a classic policy, but not a R75 2.5l. Same cars basically - all bar a badge.

That's good news, but just a word of caution, some 'classic' policies only cover for social use and that doesn't include driving to and from work - so check the policy carefully if you use your car for commuting on a daily basis.

Good point Alan!
It doesn't make much difference to the quotes if you make sure commuting is on there. The Porka is insured to commute too (I made sure of it!) |
