A member, can't remember if from here or 'tother side' was sent to pick up a gent from the USA who was over for a meeting. On having met him in the terminal at whatever airport it was, they proceeded to go to the car park where the ZT was parked. (was a MK1 by the way) The American was overjoyed that his hosts had gone to the trouble of picking him up in a Bentley. There were two pictures side by side and at a first glance, with the distinctive 4 headlight arrangement and the 2 piece grille that the MK 1 has, they can be mistaken i think. Have had mine refereed to as a poor mans Jag on more than one occasion. I don't mind. The only Jag i want is an XF and an E Type for the weekends!! Can't afford either so the ZT stays!! Regards, Dave. |

I made a similar mistake when I first saw a Chrysler 300C. It appeared very striking and imposing in grey & chrome, especially in the setting of old buildings.
I was wondering whether it was a new Bentley or the update of the Rover 75 that was due. Kearton |

I've had it loads of times,"is that a Jag you've been getting?"
i make sure I tell people "No ,its a Rover, but it came out at the same time as the S type Jag". Don't want people thinking I'm making too much money,or they won't pay the next time prices rise .lol

I've often wondered about this type of comment and whether it's a good thing. I've never had it happen to me but I have come to the conclusion that if it did I would only think "this person knows *** all about cars".
If someone reckons it looks like a Jag or a Bentley then they probably won't appreciate the finer points of any car. Think I'd much rather have a well informed comment and a bit of admiration from someone who's knowledgable and comes out with something like "that's nice 75" or "a nice Rover".... which has happened, just last week in the filling station. The boy behind the counter was only about 20 so it was quite heartening to know that some of the younger drivers still appreciate a nice Rover (even if it was filthy at the time). He asked if it was a 75 and when I said it was he asked what type of grille I had on it. When I said it was the premium one normally found on V8s he asked if it was a V8. He seemed even more intrigued when I told him it was a diesel. Cheers Bluey |
