Default 2nd Gear Slight Crunch

Hey Guys,

I had a full clutch and hydrolics replacement after 6 weeks of being messed around by my local workshop. now i have the car back for the 4th time and all is now working as it should with an addition of a new problem. My gears are terrible when cold, third is notchy and second crunches very slightly unless you rev match.

This suggests to me that the syncro is on its way out on second to me which i can sort of understand even though it did not do this before the clutch failure but the notchy gear changing is really upsetting me.

Would anyone have any ideas? wrong gear oil type maybe? i have read a lot on here about oil specs and i understand what i need, but would this give this type of effect.

This is a 2003 conn SE CDTi 131 65,000 on the clock with manual Getrag box. Its been a great car and i wanted one for years. It is now time to get rid but would you buy a car like this, i'm looking for £3000?

This is gonna cost me loads so any advice you can offer would be great.

Cheers.

First thing I would try is gearbox oil, They could have put anything in there so its the first port of call (In my opinion!) oh and the cheapest ! only other thing I could think of that would be simple would be the gear linkage adjustment but im more inclined to think oil.

On a similar note, my v6 had an "episode" this afternoon, in that the gear shift for the 2nd time sort of froze in neutral and would not engage in any gear.
30 seconds by the kerb and getting into gears seemed back to normal!!!

The previous owner I understand had the linkage replaced, and my question is can the linkages be or should be adjusted. ?? I am wondering if the previous owners mechanic just put new linkage and cables in without adjusting (if thats what needed) or did not change or put new Gearbox Oil in.

Points of view welcome as there seems to be very little on the forum on this subject.

I should also point out that in this V6 (compared to my previous one) gear shifting is not quite as smooth; with this one it feels as if the gearstick move across a rough ball bearing (thats the best way I can explain the feeling).

As I asked, views would be appreciated before this becomes my next obsession in addition to overheating

I agree, sounds like wrong gearbox oil. I would go back to the garage and ask, what oil they used
