Very nice!
Do you still have the P6, or did that go to fund the P5?

"At the moment"?
Are you thinking of selling then?

I agree with the people who have posted to try a Classic Car Insurance broker.
I ran a P6 3500S for 4 years as my main car. The insurance was very cheap and the car was tax exempt, so I could try to justify to myself the fuel consumption! I can't see why a P5B would be any different. I also found the insurance to be also better with a Classic insurance specialist rather than a "modern" policy, as you also can get an agreed value on the car.

I had my 2000 as a daily driver until I got my 75, and it was on a classic policy, until the classic insurers all stopped quoting young people. Even the P6 has to be insured as a modern car, with Lancaster, who wouldn't touch it as a classic!
The issue with the P5B, is that most insurers won't insure it because it's too old, none of the classic insurers will even quote for it, because of my age, and the few insurers who will quote me, in addition to the company that it's with, want upwards of £2000 a year to insure it, in addition to the £2k that it already costs me to insure the 2000 and the 75! The problem is that I'm only 20. |

Well, I just got a quote from the AA - £36.50 per month with a £500 excess. That wasn't the cheapest, that was Performance Direct - £5.99 per month with a £350.00 excess. Even the Post Office was - £21.50 per month with a £450.00 excess......
Just a shame I haven't got the other four and a half grand!!!

With the insurance situation, I see your problem. Most 20 years olds race around in glorified shopping trolley cars (little Fords, Vauxhalls, Peugeots etc. spring to mind). They all sound as if the exhaust system needs serious attention!
I think someone, like you, driving a car like a P5B is off their radar.

Unless I'm going blind I don't see anywhere in his post pertaining to his age....... And you are quite right, I'm not 20 anymore, but if I was told I could be just as long as all I have to do is pay a £2000 excess, I gladly would.....

It looks to me that it costs 2 grand to insure the 75 and the 2000P6 and they want another 2 grand to insure the P5B. £4000+ just on insurance. Ouch! When I was a student, a mate of mine had a P5, an earlier one with the 3 litre straight 6 in it. He just put it on his mother’s insurance for a few quid extra. Those days are long gone…….. me being 20 too!
