These cars are full of surprises. Happily I don't have cruise control. :0 so that makes the plug redundant BTW: the car started and ran after the cam belt change which makes me very happy.

purchased pair of back plate assys for the rear of my estate because the abs was on .
when tested both rear breaks were said to be at fault. so im doing belt and braces and buying everything to do with the rear brakes and abs. |

Took the paint off the new rear upper arms ahead of some remedial welding (unsurprisingly they failed the famous Mr. Kipling test pioneered by marinabrian).
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that anyone fitting new Indian arms gets them stripped back to bare metal and properly repainted....even in the small area I've wire wheeled today, I've found several areas of rust under the paint which would only get worse once on the car. Did the timing belt and water pump on the 1.8t today work has come to a halt as the hydramount split into two upon removal and a big split in the upper tie bar as well

Fitted my universal eBay front splitter not totally happy with the fit but I blame myself for that the product itself seems good quality looks good from a distance only up close trying to get the bends right looks a bit iffy, also fitted the engine tie bar just waiting for the hydramount to be delivered now.

It hasnt stopped raining for days here in the chilly far NE so decided to clean up some spares that have been sitting for months in my man cave (junk room as SWMBO calls it). The mountings for the rear trailing arms would be first - Wire brush treatment then a liberal coating of Bilt Hamber Deox rust remover. What brilliant stuff, just a soak for an hour has removed just about all of the surface rust and they look almost new!! Just a coat of primer next followed by a top coat or two of something that definately wont be hammerite!!

Lobbed the ZT up in the air to free off the rear toe brackets, and ended up tracking it (only 5 minutes, or 0.0833 degrees out)
This should prevent any further scrubbing of the tyres following the hurried replacement of the track rod end prior to the Netherlands trip. Anyway, this revealed a couple of other maladies, a clapped out rear shocker, disappointing as it's 13 months old and just out of warranty, and a small oil leak from the PCV filter housing. So there will be no prizes for guessing what I'll be doing tomorrow Ho hum Brian |

Hi Brian. Can I ask what the rear shocker was that you replaced? I bought two monroe rear shockers, and I am getting a bit of a clonk from the nearside one I think( had a look feel) but does not seem to be anything wrong with it, and it does its job ok. Upper rubber fitment to car ok also. Mystery in the making. I only get it when I go to put it in the garage,and the drive is a bit of a hump when you enter, so wondering if the shocker is being fully extended suddenly and hitting the full extent of its travel, making the clonking noise.only happens when I drive off the road left turn. Does not happen if I come onto it from the right side, less hump. Have I answered my own question. .

The other day I was out and about, and on returning to where I had parked my car I found the front left tyre completely flat. Changed to the spare wheel and 20 mins later I was in my way.
Not particularly noteworthy, apart from the fact that up until that point, the jack/toolkit etc that lives in the spare wheel well had been brand new, still in its cellophane wrapping, just as it had left the factory 17 years ago (02 plate car). Oh well, never mind, I guess it had to happen at some point, but i did feel rather disappointed as I tore off the pristine wrapping to get at the perfectly preserved tools within, which are now of course no longer mint.
