Did the top hose mod today, £4 stat and a hose clip, now runs at 9 O'clock compared to 8 before and conspicuously better heater so who ever came up with this one, my apoligies to whoever it is for not digging deep to find out, I appreciate you sharing it

Yes same here I got around to fitting the Gates stat I had bought back in August, seems to be much better heat and OBD showing high eighties rather than mid 70's as per usual.

Fitted the Gates stat today and am now getting to temp a lot quicker reading around the 89 90 degree mark via the dash obd well chuffed thanks to all involved in trailing and posting this up,looking forward to better mpg.

I'm jealous. I've had my stat sitting on the back seat for 3months. It's the stainless steel band that's stopping me fitting it. Can't find anyone with a Dremel and I ain't going to do it with a hand saw in this weather, so looks like I'm going to have to "borrow" a Dremel from Argos and then take it back next day.

i filed through mine enough to cut with snips.this method i can personally assure you will keep you warm

hi soapy, did you fit the gates stat as is, or does the lip need grinding off.
( like piccy 6 of post 1 in this link ( a renault stat btw)).

With the Gates stat there is no lip to file off just used a little silicone spray and pushed into the top hose.:xmas-smiley-004:

I used B and q's version of a dremel and a thin stone cutting wheel to cut through the band forgot i had it to be honest but don't think it was very much.
