I guess there must be a thread/post on how to get the steering wheel controls to work? Can someone direct me?
Am I doing something wrong, only when I select TA on the radio it dumps all pre tuned channels? Maybe I've misunderstood the function but I thought it was suppose to just to the Traffic Announcement and when complete go back to the previous station?

Have a look at this tread:-

It give you all the connections, depending if you have a early or late model car (if its a late one, you should not need to do anything apart from connecting the multi-colored plug to the head unit connector)
