Ah, understand now, not to worry that was a long shot. Don't suppose there was any test done on the capacitors whilst disconnected? may give an indication of which one is suspected as faulty?
Just thinking out loud guys

Well it was worth a shot Tim,
Has anything changed at all, is it still attempting to start? If we can get a spare couple of capacitors then I think that would be the next thing to try. Dave, the thing is as we know it had a bath, the joints to one of the capacitors looked iffy so resoldered those and also removed the deposits as best as I could from the board. They weren't too bad but all the same you can never tell if they have affected the other miniature components on the board. Russ

Ecu
Hi Tim i know it's been a nightmare for you, i know it's going to be difficult to fined parts for your ECU, it could be time to have it repaired professionally, have a look at this site give them a ring and see what the cost would be for a repair, steve.

Could we get a decent photo of one of the caps please? I'm surprised, but Epcos (the manufacturer of the caps) has responded and said they will try to trace them.
I have the pin spacings, and most of the markings, but I also need the dimensions of the capacitor itself. (WxDxH) Tim, try not to let it get you down. With a team this big on it, it's bound to get fixed eventually. Here's another thought for discussion. We know that the engine and immo and key need to match to start the engine. We also know funnies will happen if they don't match other things like instrument pack, BCU, and light switch. So what would happen if the BCU, instruments and light switch were disconnected, and a matched set of engine ECU, immo, and key chip were slaved in to see if it will start. Alternatively, what would happen if a slave engine ECU were put in, the immo disconnected, and the engine cranked by direct feed to the solenoid. I know the engine wouldn't run, but on many cars I know they will start and run for a few seconds before stopping. The start should at least be a 'proper' start rather than the struggle it has now. Either of these might prove (or otherwise) that it's an ECU fault. Comments please. |
