Good morning Derek, bad luck with that. The way around that if you can't get through on the phone, is to ask one of your mates who ever lives close, to call into the GP practice and make an emergency appointment for you on your behalf. Do you know anyone?

From the day we arrived home from our holidays (7th July) to an absolute mountain of stuff through the letterbox to deal with (including a car tax reminder - expired whilst I was away ) - to this last weekend, life has been indescribably hectic. I won't bore you with the details, but suffice to say the culmination was the disastrous news that TWO lifelong (from about 14 onwards) friends, including one who was best man at my wedding, have both got cancer. The latter has been given only three months, whereas the other one is at such an early stage that no prognosis has yet been made - but it's not treatable.
These two bits of bad news rather floored me for a while; I grew up with them both, holidayed with them, played football, cricket & snooker with them, drank with them - to say the least it was a horrible shock and partially explains my absence from the LCOZ for the past few weeks.

But - I'm back now, and hopefully will continue to entertain you with inane comments, risqué jokes and the odd sensible post

Good Morning Rod it's good to see you back Sir, Sorry to hear of your dreadful news, it must have been terribly upsetting to learn of that.

Yes it's this Saturday Derek. She already postponed her flight once to look after me, but now that I am almost self-caring she is going back. Tomorrow we have the general elections in Kenya and her sister in law with brain cancer will need someone to be around next week, as the family living there are away on their jollies. We are hoping the elections will be peaceful, but we do have a back up if it isn't.

Thanks Derek - I'm glad to hear you are mending, albeit rather slowly.

To cheer myself up, I'm investigating a local caravan site for a week in early September - as if we haven't been away from home enough this year

We will be in your vicinity, or not far from it next week Rod, going to Primrose Valley for a few days.
