The new ECU should help if:

it's the ECU that's the problem, and we can realign the ECU to the car. Of course we could whip the caps out of the new one, but this will only work if it's the Capacitors, not something else in the ECU. I'd hate to say 'oh yes, it'll be fine' then you spend your hard earned and it doesn't fix it.

I've just read Dragrads thread, and he had major problems. It seems that it was the ECU on his. MGOracle also suggested he'd had capacitor problems in an ECU (knew I'd heard of it somewhere) but also said it could be a seal in the HP pump.

I suggest reading the thread. Interestingly a post from Keith had a screen you might recognise where we saw the odd thing happening with the capacitor voltages.

If the new ecu has the capacitors then you can just swop them over on to your existing one and try that, if not, replace them in the new ecu and get it coded.

Seems like a plan to me, any other suggestions?

Just send the ECU to...

http://www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk/

Heard a lot of good things about this company, should be worth a pop, and there may not be a need to take it to a T4 afterwards as all the codes are retained.
