Oh here, somebody in the branch of Boots in a local retail park has a sense of humour. I was wandering round while Ging was shopping. I found myself in to the baby milk section, I looked round and in the middle of the baby milk displays was a hanging strip of packets of condoms. Bit late for that

Good afternoon all, it’s currently 30C indoors and that’s with the windows open and the fans on. Rover54 very kindly gave us an air cooler which blows chilled air over ice blocks and it does help. Thank you Ed.
I am still no better. On day 5 of the antibiotics and doing steaming to try and clear the chest. Commiserations to those suffering from illness and our love and prayers for Ivy post op Ros and Jeff, keep the faith. Julien, you asked why is it that people can’t be allowed to slip away. I think that it depends on where a person lives and the attitudes/policies to euthanasia by medical and trust staff. A recent court judgement / test case allows euthanasia to be carried out in the case of someone who is in a vegetative state and allows ventilation to be switched off and care to be withdrawn. For a few years, I ran an NHS Alzheimer’s Unit in London which had 30 beds. 2 were for respite stays and the others were for patients from as young as 35 with moderate severity to end stage. The patients at end stage, mostly had ‘do not resuscitate’ in their notes, whilst some had to carry on naturally until their very last breath at the relatives request. It’s always been a legal requirement to prolong life. When suffering is seen, it is often hard for a member of the family or a relative to understand or deal with. For some of the staff it was a just a job to them, but for most of us, we did the work with compassion and consideration. Every week all of the patients would be discussed in a team meeting with the consultant of Old Age Psychiatry and their GP, Social Worker. None of the patients ever got left out. Julien, in relation to your question about slipping away, I won’t talk about the measures we took to alleviate a patients suffering, as this is a public forum and we have members whose loved ones are suffering from Dementia. |

Sorry to hear you're still under it Phil. Ging had a bad asthma attack a couple of weeks ago, saw the doc and there was a chest infection involved as well. Doc gave her antibiotics but she only took a few because they were upsetting her stomach, as a result she's still having problems, to say I was annoyed with her is an understatement! She passed the chest infection on to me but it never went beyond a cough and a bit bunged up, its persistent though.
