On the driver’s training under an instructor we’d “commandeer” a train in the Waverley. Edinburgh-Dundee service was a common one as that was the route the examiner would take you on for the practical train handling part of the assessment, class 27 and 6 coaches. The traincrew working was normally two runs, Edinburgh-Dundee-return then repeat. If the crew spotted an instructor and trainees walking up the platform they’d almost knock you over legging it back into the coaches.

Actually when I was getting my train handling assessment we stopped at Markinch and I noticed a wisp of smoke coming from the trailing bogie of the loco. I mentioned it to the examiner, he had a look but couldn’t see anything obvious. However, when we set off again he said as we’re running a bit late we’ll get off at Cupar (next station)

7 am fireworks from unneighbourly neighbours, the mentality of some people.
Managed a walk before the wind and rain came.
Let’s make the new year a better one.

Not sorry to see the back of 2023 because it's been a rough one for Jan and myself.
Jan has been diagnosed as having Alzheimer's disease so we have that to deal with on a daily basis, fortunately we've caught it early and although there is no cure there are medications and treatment that can slow it down.
I'm now registered as Jan's carer but I must say that the support we have had from both the NHS and Alzheimer's care network has been amazing in helping us cope.
I've been suffering from a few medical issues myself and according to the doctor had a near miss in October when I called the local surgery with severe head pain, fortunately we still have an emergency doctor here in the Fens and she was here in 10 mins, she took my blood pressure and it read 210/112 so I'm on medication for that and something to help with stress which appears to be the cause of it all.
Added to that Jans sister Christine passed away in November so it's not been great.
Let's hope 2024 is a good year for all of us. I know that some of our friends in the owners club have their own health issues so we wish you all a speedy and full recovery and hope that everyones dreams come true (although I'm not certain about Norwich Citys dreams) I will end on a positive note as I'm sure some of you will know "our Ryan" had his first wins in British Superbikes in 2023 and he has a Yamaha factory supported ride for 2024 with the OMG racing team so fingers crossed he'll be chasing the wins again.

All the best to every one of you for the coming year stay safe and healthy.
Ian and Jan x

Ian, thank you for your good wishes and it’s great to see your high blood pressure was detected in time and treatment started.

I managed an NHS Alzheimer’s Care Home for several years in London so have some insight into what you are facing, my heart goes out to you both and I am really sorry this has happened to Jan. Do keep in touch and visit when you can.

Jessica and I send you lots of love

Still bloomin' raining here & I've had the house lights on all day today because it's so gloomy.

Chicken & prawn paella for tea tonight, Louis has got himself next to the radiator before the others but I haven't switched the heating on just yet lol.

Only just read this Ian.

I am really sorry to hear the news about Jan, but as it’s been caught in the early stages, and that’s good news. Give Jan all our love.

And you, take care of yourself. None of us are getting any younger, and as we get older it takes that a bit longer to recover.

Good news about Ryan though.

I’m off to the hospital again today, Allen n Val take me. Hopefully they will put my ankle into a hard cast then I might be able to get out.

Afternoon from a cool but dry Scotland. Ging had a great idea, a massage for both of us through wowcher. Slight technically, there’s an advisory that if you’ve had heart problems seek medical advice. Heart isn’t a problem but discovered with my liver condition a massage is a no no! Massage can release toxins that can overwhelm a dodgy liver. Dunno if one of her friends can go with her.

It's been dry here tom for a change but it's gone proper parky now, Colder weather forecast from now on into next week.
Back driving the class 142 ding dings on the Blackpool branch line. Blackpool north to Manchester Victoria set in 1999.

Just covered all the seedlings in the greenhouse with bubble wrap.

We're having cod fillets with Colcannon mash with peas & carrots for tea tonight.
