I dont mean to put a damper on this, they are very handy but a big and unavoidable problem is ONE small stone chip and the element is kaput and cannot be fixed. Ive had 2 fords with this problem so im speaking from experience. On both occasions window specialists said they couldnt be repaired and would have to be replaced.

another reason to buy a 1.8 K4, ultra quick warm up and with ATC screen clears almost as quick as a Fiesta with heated screen.

I completely agree - it is a problem with heated screens. It's just a risk that has to be taken, unfortunately.

Indeed they did. But that expired in 2005 I believe (patents last 20 years)

A nice idea as it's the number one thing I miss from my Mondeos. However at that sort of price, I can't see me going for it, not unless mine was already damaged and it's another modification to declare to the insurance.

Correct and im guessing that no insurance company would replace a heated screen for the £75 exess on a normal windscreen?

You can just wire it to the heated rear screen set up! Insurance can pay you the going rate for a normal one and you pay the difference. Cant see a problem if you explain it to them when its done.
