Apart from the Plenums it's also worth checking to see if your VIS motors are faulty. It seems like most people who check find at least one faulty. It can reduce your power and MPG.

They can sometimes be easily fixed but it's not something you need to ruch out and do.

I have a VIS test box and you are welcome to come over to use it. I supply free coffee as well.

I have installed 2 catch tanks im mine to stop the VIS motors from gunking up and in my opinoon it's worth it but not everyone does this.

If you want to come over I can show you how to check your plenums etc..

ooo steve you make it sound like a cheap date, lol.

Sounds like a good idea to me as you have 100% more knowledge about mgs than i do, would be nice to get some freindly help.

Is there anyway to find out if shes 160bhp or 190bhp apart from rolling road her?

The V5 should tell you when you get it.

I've learnt as I've gone along and in no small part to this club. they are a very friendly bunch and while I tend to harp on about it the £3 membership is a steal. Knowing how to clean the plenums is worth £400 if not doing it screws your ECU.

I'm more a Rover person but apart from a few subtle changes they are essentially the same car. You will have a different suspension and ECU mapping and a few internals of the engines are different but from a maintenance point of view they are exactly the same.

i looked at the v5 and did not notice any bhp figures on it whilst i was viewing the car, i would guess as i thought the mg was a touch slower than my coupe it must be the 160, coupe is 144 bhp btw. i also noticed it took quite a while for her to pick up, once she did she pulled quite hard, this would be my first v6 too, as the 2.2 was not, maybe they put down the power different

You should notice a power kick around the 3-3.5k revs. This is when the first VIS motor opens up and allows more air into the manifold. You bet another at higher revs when the balance changes.

It is also worth checking when it was last serviced. I changed my air filter and it made more of a difference that I thought it would. This prompted me to give ti a full service and I swear it pulls more and is quieter.

You can fully identify your engine when you get it by looking up the engine code here http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/down...e_id_codes.pdf

You could also enter the registration number into an online insurance quote system and it should come back with the BHP as part of the spec of the car as they are in different insurance groups.
